چکیده

In this paper we present an analytic treatment of the inverse problem of reconstructing the internal electric conductivity of an in nite domain (the lower half space) from electrical measurements performed on its surface. To this end we transform the initial di erential equation into an integral equation, a procedure which has the advantage of permitting a simple discussion of the regularization process. If the domain is unbounded the integral kernel describing the forward problem is no longer compact and this should permit, in principle, the inversion to be achieved without di culty. However this requires the existence of data up to in nite distances, so that we prefer to restrain ourselves to nite cells and use a staightforward regularization by means of model functions. In this way we can write a stable Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. This equation can be solved either numerically or by using its eigenfunctions, which we have computed explicitly.

Complex Spherical Waves and Inverse Problems in Unbounded Domains

This work is motivated by the inverse conductivity problem of identifying an embedded object in an infinite slab. The novelty of our approach is that we use complex spherical waves rather than classical Calderón type functions. For Calderón type functions, they are growing exponentially on one side of a hyperplane and decaying exponentially on the other side. Without extra modifications, they a...

Global uniqueness for a non-overdetermined inverse conductivity problem in unbounded domains

In this paper we show that sufficiently smooth coefficients of the elliptic operator ∇x · σ(x)∇x − c(x′), x ∈ R, x′ ∈ R can be uniquely determined from the Cauchy data given on a strip in the plane {x3 = 0}. This is an extension of Tikhonov’s formulation of the one-dimensional inverse problem of electric prospecting to two dimensions. In this formulation, the number of variables in the Cauchy d...

Axisymmetric Scaled Boundary Finite Element Formulation for Wave Propagation in Unbounded Layered Media

Wave propagation in unbounded layered media with a new formulation of Axisymmetric Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method (AXI-SBFEM) is derived. Dividing the general three-dimensional unbounded domain into a number of independent two-dimensional ones, the problem could be solved by a significant reduction in required storage and computational time. The equations of the corresponding Axisymmetri...
